ADHD and Autism Right to Choose

What is Right to Choose?

Right to Choose (RTC) allows you to choose which NHS-approved provider you would like to be referred to for certain services, including ADHD and Autism assessments.

The City and Hackney ADHD service is not currently accepting adult referrals due to an average waiting list of around 10 years, so ADHD referrals currently need to be made through the NHS Right to Choose pathway.

The City and Hackney Autism service do accept adult referrals; however, they have an average waiting list of 3 years. We therefore encourage patients to use the NHS Right to Choose Autism pathway for a shorter wait time for assessment.

All providers listed below are NHS-funded under the Right to Choose pathway.

Where do I start?

  • ADHD
  • Autism
  • Both

  • Each provider has their own forms and questionnaires
  • These must be completed by you and then attached within the referral form below.

4. Prepare any supporting information

  • Previous diagnostic reports (if applicable)
  • Medication details

6. Book a GP telephone consultation

  • Please complete the referral form below before booking the telephone consultation so that the GP has all relevant information and paperwork available.
  • Depending on your chosen provider, you may also be asked to book a health check to provide the required physical observations.

Right to Choose Providers

Below is a list of providers we have referred our patients to before. Please visit their websites for full details and requirements. Please note this list is non-exhaustive and we encourage you to do your own research into providers as well.

Previous Diagnosis – Important Information

Some providers do not accept patients who already have an existing diagnosis of ADHD or Autism.

Common reasons a diagnosis may not be accepted

A provider may not accept a previous diagnosis if:

  • It was completed outside of the UK
  • It was completed by a provider that does not meet their clinical standards
  • It does not include a full diagnostic report
  • It was completed a long time ago and requires updating
  • Their service is designed for new (undiagnosed) patients only

What should you do if you already have a diagnosis?

  • Check your chosen provider’s website carefully
  • Confirm whether they accept your type of diagnosis
  • Ensure you have a copy of your diagnostic report (if available)

If your diagnosis is not accepted, the provider may:

  • Offer a reassessment
  • Or advise choosing a different service

We strongly recommend checking directly with your chosen provider before proceeding.

Providers Requiring Physical Health Checks

Some providers require recent physical health measurements before starting assessment or treatment.

This includes:

  • Blood pressure
  • Pulse
  • Height and weight (BMI)

Providers that commonly require this:

  • Medinet Minds
  • Innovate ADHD
  • Sinclair-Strong Consultants
  • Atrom Mindcare

If you have chosen one of the above providers, we will ask you to provide the required physical observations before we refer you. You can provide these measurements within the referral form below. If you do not provide them when completing the form, we will send you a link to book a health check with us.

Complete the Referral Form

Once you are ready, please complete the referral form

This form will be submitted to Richmond Road Medical Centre to help us process your referral to your chosen provider.

Within 24 hours (Mon-Fri), you will receive a link to book a GP telephone consultation to discuss and process your referral. You will also receive a link to book a health check if you have chosen a provider that requires physical observations and these have not already been provided.
